Device Application Management

How to retrieve and show installed application info for a device

Last Update há 5 anos

This table can be used to approve, update, install, or uninstall Play store applications on a single device. This allows for granular management outside of the list of Project content.

Accessing the Device Application Management Table

The table can be found in these two locations:

  1. Company Devices > Options > Configuration > More Information > Apps Tab
  2. Project Devices > Options > Configuration > More Information > Apps Tab

Using the Device Application Management Table

  • Approve an app in the "Approval Status" column. This has the same effect as approving the application from the Google Play content Play store page.
  • "Installation Status" displays whether the app is currently installed or not.
  • "Update Status"
    • "Up to date": the application on the device matches the latest version on the Play store
    • "System App": the application was installed by default on the app and is not found on the Play store
    • "Not Available": the application may need to be added to the list of managed applications before determining its update status.
    • "Update Pending": an update has been pushed and the device is determining the best time for it to occur.
    • "Update Available": the application on the device has a lower version number than the version on the Play store.
    • "Uninstalled": a previously installed application has been uninstalled
  • The "Action" column can be used to update, uninstall, or re-install an application
    • "Add to Installs List": this will add this application to the list of managed applications. Normally this is done by adding an application to Project Content.
    • "Not Available" will be shown if the Google API isn’t able manage that specific application.
    • "Uninstall": this will remove the application from the device.
    • "Reload Policies": Once you update or re-install, this action indicates that the device needs to check in with the updated application information.

Tips

For best results, make sure the device has significant charge and Google Play Services is updated on the device.

  • Use Ensemble version 162 or higher.
  • Ensure the Ensemble app has the 'Modify System Settings' permission allowed.
  • Ensure the device is on an Ensemble company / project.
  • Reload policies from the Ensemble app menu to retrieve the latest app information installed on the device.

Updating, installing, uninstalling Google Play applications are under the discretion of the Play store service. This means:

  • The time it takes to install or update applications may vary depending on what processes are running on the device.
  • The number of operations per device is limited per hour.
  • Some apps are unable to be uninstalled / updated. (i.e. apps that come on the device by default cannot be uninstalled and an app must be in the Play store to be updated)
