Installing the Ensemble application

Introduction

  • Supported by Android 7.0+
  • Allows admin to choose desired Ensemble version to install.
  • Useful for testing new Ensemble application updates on individual devices.

Instructions

Finding the QR Code Generation Dialog

  1. Log onto the Ensemble management portal
  2. Navigate to the Devices page
  3. Select the 'During Setup Wizard' tab in the Deployment options tile
  4. Click 'here' under QR Code

Generating the QR code

Choose an Ensemble Version

  • The generation dialog has a dropdown to choose the desired version of Ensemble to install. 
  • The notes section below the dropdown will display the release notes for that application version.
  • A URL at to the APK file is provided and can be used on the Knox Managed Enrollment profile.

(Optional) QR Settings - Wi-Fi

  • Set Wifi: Enable this to include the Wi-Fi configuration inside the QR code
  • Wifi SSID: This is the name of the Wi-Fi connection the device will connect to after scanning this code
  • Wifi Password: This is the password required to connect to the SSID provided above.
  • Wifi Security Type: Select the type of Wi-Fi security used by the connection. The installation will fail if the wrong connection type is chosen.

(Optional) QR Settings - Branding

  • Select a custom color to be used on the Ensemble application

(Optional) QR Settings - Other

  • Enable System Apps: unchecking this will not install certain system applications. The applications are determined by the manufacturer of the device. For example, Samsung devices will not install the Gallery application if this is unchecked.
  • Skip Privacy Warnings (Android 10+): By default, for Android 10+ devices, a message will show up during the setup wizard to let user know that their data may not be private if a MDM application is on the device.

Done

  • Skip directly to this step by clicking 'Done'
  • Generate: click generate to create a QR code based on the previously selected configurations
  • Reset: click to erase all previously selected configurations
  • Clear: clears the QR code but does not fully reset all previously selected configurations

Scanning the QR Code

  • Use a device that is Android 7.0+
  • Use a device that is brand new or has been factory reset so the screen is on the language selection screen
  • Tap the background of that screen 6 times to open the QR code scanning app
  • Scan the QR code
  • The installation and setup process will begin
